Nording - More of an engineer than a pipe maker, Erik Nording took up the crafting of briar pipes as a hobby. Today the Nording Pipe Company manufactures 0nly 15,000 pipes a year in Denmark. Nording is also known for crafting the world's largest pipe, according to the Guinness Book of Records.
Missouri Meerschaum-corn cobs - Located in Washington, Missouri, the Missouri Meerschaum Company has proudly manufactured the best known corn cob pipe since 1869. The company grows it's own cobs to an exacting specification and coating the bowl with a plaster based substance, aprocess earning them a patent in 1878. Peterson - Charles Peterson is best known for bringing innovation to the making of smoking pipes. His most notable was the "Dry System" that protects the smoker from moisture in the bowl. Peterson received the patent for this design in 1894. Peterson pipes are probably most distinctive for their "P-Lip" design that directs the smoke away from the tongue and onto the roof of the smoker's mouth. The design is from the hole being on top of the mouthpiece instead of the end. Peterson pipes manufactures over 100,000 pipes a year. The U.S. market represents about 15% of Peterson's pipe sales.
